University of the Cumberlands music department highlighted music students during instrumental showcases on campus and at events around the country this semester.
On April 8, the Music Department presented a showcase concert featuring the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and guest artists Dr. David Earll, tuba, Ithaca College and Dr. Victor Andzulis, piano, Pensacola, FL. The concert culminated a day-long Musicianship Clinic taught by UC Music Faculty and the guest artists and the evening performance included World Premiere of Dr. Steven Sudduth’s Concerto for Tuba. The bands also performed at the annual Forcht Leadership Event featuring speaker, Drew Brees and for the first time, the UC Concert Band also provided music at the undergraduate 2022 Commencement ceremonies.
The Percussion, Trumpet, and Flute Studios all gave outstanding recitals featuring solos and chamber works while three piano majors also presented senior recitals! The Mountain of Sound Pep Band had a record 45 members and provided exciting music and spirit to many home Patriot mens’ and womens’ basketball games, leaving fans and coaches pumped and appreciative of the energy they bring. And to conclude a very successful semester, the UC Jazz Ensemble toured into Northern Kentucky performing at Grant Co HS, Model Lab HS, Rockcastle Co HS and at the KY State Jazz Assessment event in Georgetown.
The University of the Cumberlands music department offers many exciting performing ensembles for UC students. These ensembles contribute significantly to the Cumberlands experience and are active in many facets of campus life. They range in size from small chamber ensembles to large ensembles for both choral and instrumental groups. Participation is open to all students on campus regardless of whether they are music majors or students with majors in other subject areas.
