University of the Cumberlands has named Mr. Devon Goings the new Director of Diversity and Inclusion. Goings is a Cumberlands alumnus who most recently served as an associate campus minister and as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Missions and Ministry.

As Director of Diversity and Inclusion, Goings will serve as the chief diversity officer, facilitating campus-wide discussions and training opportunities related to diversity.

“Devon knows Cumberlands through and through, so I am excited to see what he can bring to this position,” said President Larry L. Cockrum. “Jerton Evans built a great foundation in this role and I’m confident Devon will continue to develop framework to support our students here on campus.”

Goings will collaborate with departments across Cumberlands’ campus to strengthen the recruitment, retention, and graduation rates of diverse student populations. He will also oversee the student-led Diversity Leadership Council (DLC).

Since 2020, the DLC at Cumberlands has collaborated with other campus organizations on numerous campus events like cookouts, game nights, sporting events, and worship services. The council has also hosted discussion panels with guest speakers, discussed social issues and brainstormed solutions, and volunteered in community service opportunities.

Goings is active in ministry efforts at Cumberlands and is a preaching elder at his home church in Williamsburg, KY. In addition to teaching classes at Cumberlands, Goings participates in campus events and serves in volunteer opportunities in the community. He is pursuing a master’s degree online at Reformed Theological Seminary with plans to pursue his doctorate.
