Musicians with connections to the University of the Cumberlands Department of Music recently performed at the Singletary Center for the Arts in Lexington, KY, as part of the annual Big Band Showcase event.
Three jazz ensembles performed in the evening concert, including the Metrognomes, the Bluegrass Area Jazz Ambassadors, and the Somerset Big Band. The latter group includes current Cumberlands student Robert Lewis on baritone saxophone, Cumberlands alumnus Jamey Robinson on tenor saxophone, and Cumberlands faculty member and Chair of the Department of Music Dr. David Threlkeld, also on tenor saxophone.
Robert Lewis said of the event, “This was my first time in the Singletary Center. It was a great experience meeting other members of the local jazz community and playing for that audience!”
Dr. Threlkeld added, “One of my greatest joys as a music educator is being able to share the stage with current and former students. Performing on this concert with both Jamey Robinson and Robert Lewis made this performance even more special.”
