Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Campus will close on December 18 for the holidays and will reopen on January 2.

Lois McWhorter has been named the new Chair of the Hutton School of Business at University of the Cumberlands (UC).

“I am excited to become part of a team of faculty and staff who deliver quality programs to students at an affordable price,” said McWhorter.

McWhorter was previously the Director of Special Projects at Cumberlands, a position in which she helped institute articulation agreements between Cumberlands and schools such as Somerset Community College and Pellissippi State Community College. She began serving as Interim Chair for the Hutton School of Business in February 2018. Since then, the department has added three new online graduate programs to its repertoire and sponsored a local high school student to attend a Business and Accounting Summer Education (BASE) camp.

As Chair, McWhorter will ensure the business programs are quality-driven and student-focused. She also plans on developing new opportunities for student internships throughout Appalachia and beyond. Cumberlands already connects students with internships and job opportunities through a variety of job posting platforms and professional connections. The University also provides free career services to students for advice on résumé writing, the interview process, and how to network effectively.

“I believe internship opportunities augment classroom learning and equip students with marketable skills for an economy that is changing more than ever before,” said McWhorter.

McWhorter hopes to expand Cumberlands’ business programs across Kentucky and throughout the nation. Her goal is to develop national, regional, and state partnerships that recognize the value of coursework students acquire via community colleges, dual credit, and other coursework that is based on nationally recognized accreditation standards.

The University provides a variety of accounting and business programs on-campus and online at the undergraduate and graduate levels. All graduate programs are fully online and offer rolling admission. The next term begins on January 7. Graduate programs include master’s degrees in business administration, project management, or strategic management, as well as doctorate programs in business or business administration.

Located in Williamsburg, Kentucky, University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction offering quality undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and online degree programs. Learn more at ucumberlands.edu
