University of the Cumberlands senior music major Lydia Barbour (far left) recently landed the position of pianist with the Somerset Big Band based out of Somerset, KY. She joins UC Professor of Music David Threlkeld and Music Department alumnus Jamey Robinson (2010) in the ensemble. Both professor Threlkeld and Jamey play tenor saxophone in the big band.
Professor Threlkeld states, “I am always very pleased when our students are able to share their musical talents in the community and I am thrilled that Lydia has been chosen to join the Somerset Big Band. She and Jamey Robinson both honed their skills in the UC Jazz Ensemble and now they are both performing for wider audiences. This is what it is all about!”
The Somerset Big Band is a professional 18 piece big band that provides traditional and modern jazz music to the local community. More information about the Somerset Big Band can be found on Facebook.
