Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Campus will close on December 18 for the holidays and will reopen on January 2.

With the pressure of finals week looming, offices at University of the Cumberlands (UC) have been busy brainstorming fun ways to help relieve their students’ stress.

They’ve thought up some good ones.

UC’s Campus Activities Board (CAB) led efforts by hosting Relaxation Week, a three-day endeavor that offered students a special stress reliever each day. The first night included one of CAB’s ever-popular Bingo nights, complete with gift cards for winners. Another evening featured a pop-up coffeehouse and build-a-bear table in the student center, so students could get a caffeine fix and a new fluffy friend while listening to music, chatting with friends, or settling in for quality study time.

The most-loved event was the morning Knox-Whitley Animal Shelter brought in dogs for students to play with and snuggle. It’s a day some students look forward to every year. (Pets are not allowed in UC residence halls, but the shelter is full of adoptable animals.)

That all occurred this week, the week preceding final exams. But Cumberlands’ de-stress events are only beginning.

In the days leading up to Christmas break, the University’s official social media pages have joined the fun, posting a new “survival” tip each day and encouraging students to share their own. Students with public profiles who share tips and use the hashtag “#finalscountdown” in their captions are entered to win a free UC sweatshirt. The social media pages will unveil even more pleasant surprises during finals week itself.

Also during finals week, the University’s student services office will hand out free hot chocolate at the student center in the mornings, giving students a toasty, sugary boost to their days. Additionally, UC’s Student Government Association will host “study breaks” each night, serving food from King Donuts, Subway, and Taco Bell in the campus grill free of charge.

Finals week can be hectic. Students want to do well. After all these de-stress events, students can rest assured: UC’s faculty and staff want them to do well too.
