The weekend kicked off on Friday evening with the traditional Homecoming Concert.
University of the Cumberlands celebrated Homecoming 2021 from October 22-24 with the theme of Happy Together. Indeed there were many happy moments for music alumni during this special Homecoming Weekend!
The weekend kicked off on Friday evening with the traditional Homecoming Concert. This year the concert was led off by the UC Jazz Ensemble under the direction of David Threlkeld. Dr. Jeff Smoak then led both Cumberland Voices and the Chorale. The Chorale portion of the program concluded with the long-standing tradition of having alumni Chorale members join the current ensemble in a rendition of The Battle Hymn of the Republic. The concert, held in the Gatliff Chapel, was presented to a full house including many alumni of the Music Department!
On Saturday, the UC Patriot Marching Band performed for the football game vs. Campbellsville University. The Patriot Marching Band was joined by several alumni both in the stands and on the field for the halftime performance. Several former drumline members returned to UC to pay a special tribute to Mr. Jim Corcoran who completed his 25th year of leading the drumline last year. A special reception was held for Jim to recognize his many years of dedication to UC and the Marching Band.
The weekend concluded with the Chorale singing during the Sunday morning worship service at First Baptist Church in Williamsburg. The congregation was very appreciative and the pastor encouraged the members of the Chorale to consider attending the church and contributing their voices for worship.
The University of the Cumberlands Music Department is hosting its annual Christmas at the Cumberlands event on Sunday, December 5 at the O. Wayne Rollins Center. The concert begins at 4 p.m. and is free and open to the entire community.
