University of the Cumberlands has launched a new GOLD Program for young Cumberlands alumni. The GOLD Program is a network for undergraduate alumni from the last 10 years, created to build lasting connections.

“We really want to connect, engage, and support alumni from the last ten years. That’s our goal,” said Amanda Gault, a volunteer coordinator with the Office of Development at Cumberlands. “Our hope is that our young alumni continue having a strong bond with their alma mater, as well as potentially some new friendships and business connections they met through the program. That’s part of being a member of the Cumberlands family!”

Gault has been working in conjunction with Erica Harris, executive director of Alumni Services, and Linda Chen, coordinator at the Appalachian Institute on campus, to spearhead the initiative.

The GOLD program will host events for career development, community service, and fun reconnection. On Saturday, August 3rd, it will host a “Nostalgia in the Burg” event beginning at 2pm at Patriot Park on Cumberlands’ Campus. The event will feature a pickleball tournament, cornhole, music, snacks, and more. Alumni in attendance will be given coupons for area restaurants as well, giving them a chance to reconnect not only with their alma mater’s campus but also with their favorite spots in the local community. Harris said, “The GOLD Program offers a unique opportunity to demonstrate that the college experience is not just four years, but a lifetime of impact!  Staying connected offers recent graduates the chance to create community through events and gatherings and allows them a variety of opportunities to network, socialize, and connect with other alums. This program is another way in which we can help foster a young alum’s passion and pride for their alma mater.”

The GOLD Program is led by a select Leadership Committee consisting of exceptional alumni from recent graduate years who embody the Cumberlands spirit. Recent graduates have the opportunity to join leadership teams for GOLD Program subcommittees which lead efforts for events, fundraising, recruitment, community service, and social media.
