WILLIAMSBURG, KY – University of the Cumberlands Department of World Languages is honored to welcome José Galvez, renowned photographer, journalist, and speaker to campus Tuesday, Oct. 17. Galvez will showcase his traveling exhibition “Aquí Estamos, Here We Are.” The event begins at 5 p.m. in the Correll Science Complex auditorium on the University’s campus. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Since the age of 22, Galvez has used black and white film to capture the daily lives of Latinos in the southern United States. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the nation and around the world, including the Smithsonian. Galvez was also part of a Pulitzer Prize-winning team at the Los Angeles Times, and has published a book entitled Shine Boy, which places stories of his own life side by side with his photographs. Galvez currently travels to universities, libraries, fiestas, lowrider shows, and rodeos to speak about his photos, his life, and the lives of his fellow Latinos in America.
