Michael C. Tompkins, Ph.D., is an academic and business professional with extensive experience in higher education and industry. He currently serves as an adjunct professor in business at the University of the Cumberlands in the Plaster Graduate School of Business. Dr. Tompkins has a deep background in strategic management, focusing on the intersection between organizational behavior and strategic management processes. His doctoral research focused on the cognizance of the organizational vision statement and its impact on job satisfaction. He has held several roles in higher education at both the administrative and faculty levels. He has previously taught at Eastern Gateway Community College, the University of Arizona, and the Community College of Allegheny County, where he served as both Assistant and Associate Dean of Business and Technology.
Dr. Tompkins has also contributed significantly to the private sector, working in project management roles at PPG Industries and Unifrax, Inc., among others, for over a decade. His professional achievements include managing the raw material integration process for seven international acquisitions, leading several cost-saving initiatives, and being responsible for consumer product development in the industrial ceramics industry. Recently, Dr. Tompkins was a recipient of the 2024 Dukes from the Last Decade Alumni Award from Duquesne University, for outstanding alumni contributions and achievements.
