Dr. Kacy Mixon is an established academic and trauma-informed therapist, holding a PhD in Counselor Education from the University of Florida (2013) and a license in marriage and family therapy. Her expertise spans trauma, family violence, human trafficking, and military family support. At the University of Florida and Valdosta State University, she supervised counselors-in-training and instructed courses on clinical supervision, mental health, and educational theories.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Mixon notably directed the Family Development portion of the Military Families Learning Network (re-named OneOp), a Department of Defense/USDA initiative that bolstered services for mental health professionals working with military families--enhancing resilience and family violence prevention/intervention. Her career accolades include the Chi Sigma Iota Leadership Fellowship for 2012-2013, and she actively contributed to the Safe Start Project with RAND Corporation and the OJJDP, aimed at mitigating children and family exposure to violence (2007-2009).
Her role expanded globally as she served on the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Counter-Trafficking in Persons (C-TIP) team (2020-2022), managing programming for international anti-trafficking and human rights violation efforts and serving as project manager for global research initiatives focused on human trafficking. Dr. Mixon founded KMG Consultation Services, LLC, (2022) advising on project management, training development and federal grant procurement for various organizations.
Throughout her career, Dr. Mixon has fused discipline integration, expert collaboration, and innovative projects to address critical and pervasive social issues. Her work has significantly impacted mental health and psychosocial services fields, particularly for vulnerable groups, by promoting research-based clinical practices, inclusive, support environments, as well as trauma-informed, survivor-centered approaches into mental health and human service initiatives.
