Cumberlands is a great place to be an international student. I am from Brazil, and I personally love getting to know people from other countries and learning about their cultures. Happily, at Cumberlands, I’ve had plenty of opportunities. With over 40 countries represented on campus, the international community has its place here. I’ve gotten to know not only people from my home country but also from Japan, Egypt, and Italy, to name a few.
As international students, we are provided with so many opportunities to get to know people. And I love that Cumberlands promotes many events that help international students get involved and share a bit of their countries. During my time here at UC, I have gone to plenty of International Food Nights, where I got to cook traditional dishes from Brazil and taste meals from many other countries. I’ve also attended International Worship Nights and gone to an international conference called Connect, where many college campuses around Kentucky offer the opportunity for international students to connect. There are also table talks hosted by the Diversity & Inclusion Department, where students can get in small groups and discuss different topics with people from different cultures.
The support for international students is also something that I would like to highlight. From applying for college to graduating college, Cumberlands helps international students with all the documentation and transcripts necessary. I got to ask for help any time I needed and got to ask so many questions. With their help, I got my driver's license and many jobs on campus, and I’ve gotten to know a lot more about graduate programs on campus and the whole process of applying for jobs after college.
Cumberlands feels like a home away from home, and, especially for international students, that is incredibly important. The community is so welcoming and inviting, so if you are an international student looking for colleges in America, I would definitely say that University of the Cumberlands is the place to be.
