Cumberlands throws a ton of events for the students every semester and it is great!

One of my favorite things about University of the Cumberlands is the fact that they throw a ton of events for the students every semester! Many of my favorite events are the ones that happen every year. It’s become a tradition between my friends and I to attend these specific events, where we have made many special memories over the years.

During the fall semester, Cumberlands throws loads of events for the students to attend, such as the Welcome Week adventures! The specific events change each year, but the school always goes all out to welcome its new students and the returning students as well! And many holiday-related events are crammed into the first semester (Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are all during fall), so keep an eye out for those activities. My friend’s favorite is hands down the Countdown to Christmas events! Each year, Cumberlands will create a Countdown to Christmas calendar for the students to look forward to. There’s something new to look forward to every week – and practically every day. While these events sometimes change, one specific event has been around for a while: “Build A Buddy!” You and your friends get to pick out a stuffed animal to make and take home with you. How cute is that? Students make the animals for themselves, their significant others, their friends, or younger siblings back home as a Christmas gift. This is an event you don’t want to miss out on!

During the spring semester, Cumberlands throws other holiday eventslike Valentine’s Day card making, not to mention many other weekly events. But the most popular campus event that people look forward to is Spotlight! It’s a singing competition like “American Idol.” You can audition or vote for your favorite student to win. The top winners receive money as a prize for their skills!

Every semester, you can expect the school to throw Bingo parties, which have become an absolute favorite on campus. Social time plus the chance to win cool free stuff? Yes, please! Our school gets very into Bingo nights here because Cumberlands gives out prizes that everyone wants, so we get pretty serious because we’re trying our best to win! Cumberlands also does “Worry Free Wednesdays” every semester. This is where the school hosts crafts such as painting in the BCC (Boswell Campus Center) for the students to take a break throughout the week and relax with their friends.

And if you want to go to an event but just do not want to leave your dorm, that’s okay too! Each dorm holds monthly get-togethers that are usually hosted in your dorm’s common areas (or, rarely, during really nice weather, they’re held right outside your dorm). These events vary per residence hall. No need to leave your dorm or get changed out of your pajamas, just bring a friend and have fun!

Most of these events, not including the dorm activities, are posted on an app called the Patriots Reward App. You can find it on your phone’s app store. On this app, you can “check in” every day and get points, which you can save up and spend on prizes! Plus, the app gives you details about what campus events are going on that week, what time they’re happening, and where, so it’s a useful app to have. Make sure you download it, and always check it so you stay in the loop of what’s going on around campus!
