The Patriot, the official student newspaper of University of the Cumberlands, seeks to provide hands-on journalism experience for the University’s students. The campus newspaper is produced by a student staff members. Students are involved in writing, editing, photography, and layout design.
You do not have to be a Communication Arts major or a Journalism minor to be involved with the campus newspaper. All UC students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to take part in publication of The Patriot. The Patriot gives students of all majors and interests experience with print communication through a wide range of writing, from news and features to entertainment, religion and sports. Contributors can also write commentary and humorous or creative pieces. The paper currently reaches over 2,000 people, both on campus and across the world.
The Patriot offers work study positions and journalism scholarships. The office of The Patriot is located on campus in room 107 of the Grace Crum Rollins Fine Arts Building.
