Local Cumberlands Grad Named KBC Executive Director

UC grad Paul Chitwood has been named the KBC's new executive director/treasure as of July 1, 2011

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky- On June 2, the Kentucky Baptist Convention (KBC) Mission Board approved University of the Cumberlands (UC) graduate and current Board of Trustees member Paul Chitwood as the convention’s new executive director/treasurer.

Chitwood, a Jellico, Tennessee native, is a 1992 UC graduate where he received his bachelors with a major in Religion and a minor in Biblical language. The husband (wife Michelle Elaine Herron, a 1993 UC graduate) and father of three (Daniel, 14, Anna, 12, and Cai, 4) is currently serving his UC Board of Trustees term that expires in 2014.

The time Chitwood spent at and working with Cumberlands has greatly prepared him for his upcoming leadership position with KBC.

“As a student at UC, I gained a foundation of knowledge that has served me well in all of life's endeavors and prepared me for my seminary studies,” Chitwood explained. “As a trustee at UC, I have gained insight into the relationship between the KBC and her partnering institutions as well as learning great leadership lessons from observing Dr. Taylor and his staff.”

The current pastor of First Baptist Church of Mt. Washington since 2003, Chitwood will be taking over for the retiring Bill Mackey on July 1. Chitwood has also served as the pastor at First Baptist Church of Somerset (1999-2003), First Baptist Church of Owenton (1995-1999) and South Fork Baptist Church in Owenton (1993-1995).

“I am proud to be a graduate of UC and look forward to strengthening the partnership between the university and the convention for the sake of the generations of Christian students who will be preparing to serve Christ and share His gospel in their chosen careers.”

Located in Williamsburg, KY, University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; nine graduate degrees, including two doctorates, a specialist, and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
