Cumberlands Student Linda DeBakey Receives Honored Religion Graduate Award


Williamsburg, Ky. – University of the Cumberlands (UC) Religion department awarded Linda DeBakey (Columbia, MD) the 2011 Honored Graduate award during the annual Honors Day awards ceremonies on April 25th, 2011 in the O. Wayne Rollins Center.

DeBakey is completing a double major in Religion and Art with a minor in Biblical Language and will graduate with honor having attained a minimum of 3.70 cumulative standing.

Linda is also an active member of Theta Alpha Kappa, the religion honor society and Eta Beta Rio, the Hebrew honor society.

She is the daughter of Clair and Doug DeBakey of Columbia, Md. During her time at UC she has excelled not only in academics but as an athlete for women’s wrestling and as a leader in the mission field. Some of her activities include winter break missions in Mexico in 2009, spring break missions in Kentucky in 2010, and participation on the Mountain Outreach summer team during the previous summer.

Outside the University, Linda is an active member of First Baptist Church of Williamsburg, where she has been involved in Upward Basketball and volunteered with the food pantry ministry. After graduation, she plans to attend seminary and serve in full-time ministry.

Located in Williamsburg, KY, University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; seven graduate degrees, including a doctorate and six master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
