Jess Correll to Address Largest Commencement Class in UC History

 


Jess Correll will be the featured speaker at the University of the Cumberlands commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 7th.

Williamsburg, Ky. – Jess Correll will be the featured speaker at University of the Cumberlands (UC) commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 7. The ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. in the O. Wayne Rollins Center on the UC campus.

Mr. Correll, a native of Somerset, Ky., is the founder and chairman of the board for First Southern Bancorp, Inc. First Southern, founded in 1983, is based in Stanford, Kentucky and is the parent company of First Southern National Bank.

First Southern National Bank, with assets of $700 million, is a strong regional bank with 24 locations and more than 230 team members in 11 Kentucky counties.

Correll is an entrepreneur at heart and a creative visionary leader. He has a passion for giving to others, thanks in part to the influence of those around him, including his parents, Ward and the late Regina Correll, and his late brother, Vince.

UC will also present Correll with an Honorary Doctorate of Laws degree. He will be joined by William H. Fleming, M.D. who will also receive the illustrious honor from UC.

University of the Cumberlands expects to confer degrees on their largest graduating class in history estimating, before final grades are awarded, 395 degrees including baccalaureate, masters, and the first class of doctoral degrees. In addition, UC will honor the class of 1961 in their 50th reunion. An estimated 30 members of the class will return for the Alumni Golden March, a new tradition at UC.

Seating is a premium every year at commencement and this year will certainly be no exception. Doors will open to the O. Wayne Rollins Center at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 7th. Due to the anticipated number in attendance, UC will be offering the commencement via live video stream on their website at http://www.ucumberlands.edu/graduation/. In addition, the Boswell Campus Center will be open for overflow with the ability to watch the live streaming event as well.
