Cumberlands Quick Recall Team Earns 1st Place

Williamsburg, Ky. - The Kentucky College Quick Recall League held its final tournament of the season at Ohio University’s Southern Campus. University of the Cumberlands (UC) represented the university well as they defeated eight teams to take first place in the Division I competition.

The tournament was presented in the same format as they have been all season where quick recall toss-up questions are asked and the players had a chance to buzz in and answer, which must be done within five seconds. A correct answer to a toss-up question gave the team a chance for a bonus question in which they had ten seconds to answer and confer among each other.

Representing Cumberlands and earning first place honors were: Matthew Brotherton (Harrison, OH), Michelle Gerbracht (Williamsburg, KY), Christina Gillis (Knoxville, TN), Deron Higgins (Corbin, KY), and Daniel Yetter (Williamsburg, KY).

Cumberlands is a member of the Kentucky College Quick Recall League in which in 2010-2011 there were 11 total institutions represented. There are a minimum of six tournaments held each year; three a semester.

Although down in active participates in the past two seasons, the team has always been competitive in every tournament in which they have participated.

“In the final tournament of the season I saw the team take first place,” said UC Quick Recall team sponsor, Dr. Al Pilant. “It was a wonderful way to end the season.”

Now, back on track with a first place win, the UC Quick Recall team will regroup and rebuild for the 2011-2012 season.
