Cumberlands Honors Retiree Daphne Baird

Dr. Jim Taylor, President of UC, congratulates Daphne Baird on her years of service to UC and her retirement at the UC Annual Faculty and Staff Dinner.

Williamsburg, Ky. - University of the Cumberlands (UC) honored Mrs. Daphne Baird, retiring director of media relations, at its 19th annual Faculty-Staff Dinner on April 15.

Baird, who has been working at Cumberlands since 2006, received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management Curriculum from Berea College in 1989. Additionally, she obtained a Certificate in Fund Raising from the Midwest Center of Nonprofit Leadership at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.

Before coming to UC, Baird, a native of Berea, KY, worked for the American Cancer Society and Berea College. As director of Media Relations, Daphne has brought her affection for University of the Cumberlands and its people, her passion for a good story, and her considerable talents as a writer to the pages of Cumberland Today and Appalachian Voice.

She is a member of Williamsburg First United Methodist Church where she is part of the choir. Baird also is a regular at theatrical productions and sporting events on the UC campus. She has said that the Appalachian Mountains hold a special place in her heart, and that she feels truly blessed by her time in Williamsburg.

Upon retirement Daphne plans to travel with her husband, Jerry Baird, of 42 years. They plan on continuing their adventures, visiting with their daughters Leah and Elizabeth, and their grandchildren Nathaniel and Isabella.
