Williamsburg, Ky. - At the annual Faculty and Staff Dinner at University of the Cumberlands on April 15, Mrs. Diane Jamison was presented with the Dr. William T. Miles Memorial Award for Community Service.

The university presents the William T. Miles Memorial Award for Community Service to a faculty member who has made a significant contribution to the Williamsburg community in an area consistent with university goals. The individual must be a Christ-like servant who: lives the mission of Cumberlands; achieves a bold service focused on physical and spiritual health; provides humble service; and models service to others.

Jamison, assistant professor in the mathematics department, donates a lot of her time to helping individuals through her servant work in the church. She spends countless hours each week helping shop, unload trucks, box, and distribute hundreds of boxes of groceries to the Church’s food bank. Some of her volunteer work includes helping manage ticket sales for a concert held at Grace on the Hill in support of the Haitian Relief Effort and she donates her time helping participate in food sales, chaperoning parties, and planning various events at the church as well.

On campus Jamison is always the first to step in and lend a helping hand. For many years, she coordinated the Annual High School Mathematics Contest, spending hours promoting the contest to local schools, training our students to administrate exams, and providing professional training opportunities for chaperones. In the process, she was constantly promoting the mission of the university. Through her attendance, she supports university events with special mention to Campus Ministries. She has also served as co-sponsor of the Mathematics and Physics Club.

In everything that she does, Jamison demonstrates a commitment to supporting others. During the many years that she was director of the Academic Resource Center, she was both an advocate and mentor to those students who used ARC tutoring services and to those students who served as tutors. This willingness to help others is also demonstrated every time she gives someone a ride to church or to the grocery store.

Anyone that knows Diane Jamison also knows that she has a gift for prayer that touches the heart to bring people closer to the peace and joy of Christ’s love. She listens carefully and weaves their concerns and needs into prayer that both reflects and petitions. We are truly blessed to have a prayer warrior in our presence.
