Cecil honored at University of the Cumberlands


Ms. Norma Patrick, Co-Chair of the Education Department, awards Niki Cecil of Williamsburg, Ohio.

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Christina Nicole Cecil (Niki) received the Education Department’s 2010 Middle School Education Award at the 51st annual Honors Day Convocation, on April 26, at University of the Cumberlands. She was also recognized for Honor at the University.

Cecil completed graduation requirements in December 2009 with a 3.85 GPA and a certification in middle school language arts and social studies. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in education and graduated magna cum laude on May 8.

Cecil was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, Kappa Delta PI, Sigma Tau Delta and Kentucky Education Association Student Program. She has been named to Who’s Who Among American Universities and Colleges.

Departmental awards are awarded based on a student’s academic achievement, service to the department and service to the University. Students recognized for Honor must attain a minimum of 3.70 cumulative standing.

Alpha Lambda Delta is the national freshman honor society and is designed to honor excellent academic achievement by college students in their first year of study. Kappa Delta Pi is an educational honor society and is dedicated to the ideals of Fidelity to Humanity, Service, Science, and Toil. Sigma Tau Delta is a chapter of the International English Honorary and promotes academic excellence in the study of literature.

Who’s Who is open to juniors and seniors who have been selected by the faculty and staff. These students have excelled in one or more of the following areas: participation and leadership in academic and extracurricular activities; citizenship and service to the school and community; and potential for future achievement.

Cecil is from Williamsburg, Ohio and plans to teach in a social studies or language arts middle school classroom this fall.
