Homecoming and Family Weekend at Cumberland

Seniors Buddy Martin and Heather Gardner were named king and queen.

Williamsburg, Ky. — Alumni, family and friends gathered at University of Cumberlands November 11-13 to celebrate homecoming and family weekend. Participants enjoyed an array of activities including men’s and women’s basketball games, the season ending football game against rival Georgetown College, a performance of the rock-n-roll Broadway show “Godspell,” and a parade.

“This was a great weekend,” said John Shemwell. “I’m so glad I got the opportunity to see what my daughter does on the weekend, meet her friends, see her dorm room and just spend some quality time with her.”

Participants enjoyed the caricature artist's humorous drawings.

For alumnus Jim Hicks, the highlight of his weekend was the football game. “Coming to the game really brings back memories,” said Hicks.

Not only did participants enjoy athletic events, but they also enjoyed festivities surrounding the parade. Some received balloon animals or face paintings while others had their portrait drawn.

“Not much about Cumberland has changed except the name and updated buildings,” said alumna Martha Brooks. “I thought that the Christian atmosphere would have declined over the years but it really hasn’t. It’s good to know that students are still learning in good surroundings.”
