Alumnus to present Zuspan lecture at University of the Cumberlands

 


WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Dr. Matt Joyce, a graduate of University of the Cumberlands, will present the annual Zuspan lecture, titled: “Investigation of Neurotransmission in a Transgenic Model: Implications for Understanding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)” on March 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the Correll Science Complex, on campus. The lecture sponsors Dr. Fredrick Zuspan, president of Perinatal Resources, Inc., Hilliard, Ohio.

Dr. Joyce’s presentation will focus on the importance of study models in the observation of psychiatric disorders. Studies done on mice have been linked to understanding psychiatric disorders like ADHD. Dr. Joyce will also examine technologies used in these studies. He will present data regarding measures of glutamate and dopamine neurotransmission using brain sensors.

Joyce is a Kentucky native and a graduate of Cumberland College, now University of the Cumberlands, class of 2000. While at Cumberland, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology. After leaving, he completed and defended his dissertation at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology, receiving his Ph.D. in 2006. He then took a position in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Kentucky as a postdoctoral fellow carrying out drug discovery research. In 2008, Joyce joined Eli Lilly and Company, where he is currently employed as a neuroscience medical liaison for Lilly USA Research Laboratories.
