National Wear Red Day at University of the Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Health, Exercise and Sport Science Department at University of the Cumberlands encourages everyone to wear red on February 6, 2009.

National Wear Red Day is a day when Americans, nationwide, take women’s health to heart by wearing red to show their support for women’s heart disease awareness. National Wear Red Day debuted in 2004, and has grown since that time.

However, heart disease is the #1 killer among both American men and women. One in every thirty women dies each year due to breast cancer, but one in three women dies each year due to heart disease.

So, everyone, including men and women, is encouraged to wear red on this day. National Wear Red Day’s Symbol is a little red dress that can be pinned to any item of clothing, but wearing red clothing will also show support and help increase awareness of these sobering statistics.
