UC Graduate Student Auditions on American Idol

Craig Carter, a student in University of the Cumberlands’ Doctor of Education program, auditioned for the new season of American Idol on Fox.

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Craig Carter, a student in University of the Cumberlands’ Doctor of Education program, will have his fifteen minutes of fame with the startup of the new season of American Idol on Fox.

Carter has auditioned for the reality series several times before, but this time, his promotional scheme involved more than his singing voice. Carter came prepared to stand out from others auditioning in Louisville by donning a sign that said, "Be Smarter. Pick Carter from Possum Trot, KY.” "How many people have even heard of Possum Trot?" says Carter. The sign was indeed a hit. Though he didn’t make it past the first round of judging, he received much camera time during the filming.

In addition to his passion for singing, Carter is a teacher of the gifted at McCracken County Schools and spends his Saturdays at UC in Ed.D. courses. Carter also is a National Board Certified Teacher. He has served as a writing consultant, participant, sought-after presenter and committee member for a range of professional-development initiatives.

While FOX has not released specific details about what city’s auditions will air when, the Louisville auditions will air on January 20-21 or January 27-29.
