Guest Percussion Artist John Willmarth to Perform with the UC Jazz Ensemble

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – University of the Cumberlands Jazz Ensemble will present a free concert featuring guest percussion artist, John Willmarth, on October 7th at 7:30 p.m. in the Nell Moore Recital Hall of the Grace Crum Rollins Fine Arts Center on the UC campus.

John Willmarth is a performer, composer, author and educator. Willmarth holds the drumset chair in the Dimartino/Osland Jazz Orchestra, The Raleigh Dailey Trio, and the University of Kentucky Jazztet. He has performed with the Lexington Brass Band and the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra. An emerging composer, Willmarth received 2nd place honors in the 2006 Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest for his piece for solo timpani, “Bushido: The Way of the Warrior.” He currently serves as Director of Percussion at Lafayette High School, a 13 time marching band state champion and a Bands of America Grand National finalist, and as an adjunct faculty member specializing in drumset studies and jazz vibes at the University of Kentucky.

The UC Jazz Ensemble will be under the direction of Mr. David Threlkeld. He will also perform on tenor sax with Willmarth for one song.
