Jeff Sheppard speaks on campus at Camp UNITE

Former UK basketball player Jeff Sheppard speaks to participants of Operation UNITE’s Camp UNITE at University of the Cumberlands.

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. –Operation UNITE’s Camp UNITE, held July 28-August 1, at the University of the Cumberlands, left a loud impression with guest speaker Jeff Sheppard.

Sheppard, a former player for the University of Kentucky’s basketball team, spoke at UC’s O. Wayne Rollins Center last Friday to a group of 300 enthusiastic, Kentucky middle school students who attended the camp. Sheppard’s “Shoot Hoops, Not Drugs” story was driven to inspire all young people to pursue their dreams, as Sheppard himself once pursued the dream to play ball.

Sheppard’s story focused on aspects such as pursuing one’s dream and how drugs can ruin the road to success. “I know all these kids are good at something,” Sheppard stated. “God created them for a reason, and their purpose, the goal to success, can only be reached if they focus on their talents, not drugs.”.

Sheppard expressed gratitude that Camp UNITE had given him the opportunity to share his story and to speak up for how we all have a purpose and talents to fulfill that purpose. “In reaching our goals, we use our talents to make our dreams a reality, and to make a difference in our lives and in the lives of others,” he said.
