Patrick Honored with Mackey Award


WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.- Josh Patrick is this year’s recipient of University of the Cumberlands Mackey Award. This award is given each year to a student in teacher education.

Dr. Jocelyn Mackey established this award in honor of her parents, Flora B. and Elbert T. Mackey. A graduate of University of the Cumberlands (formerly Cumberland College), Dr. Mackey went on to obtain degrees in library science and English, and then served as a teacher and superintendent for the Williamsburg school system.

Nominees for the Mackey Scholarship must be admitted to teacher education, exhibit leadership in daily activities, demonstrate high moral and ethical standards and show promise of becoming a professional educator of distinction.

Patrick, of Williamsburg, Ky., is the son of Lincoln and Iona Patrick and is pursuing his degree in Elementary Education.

University of the Cumberlands, located in Williamsburg, Kentucky, is a private liberal arts college in its 119th year of operation. Cumberlands offers four undergraduate degrees in 37 major fields of study, 30 minors and nine pre-professional programs, as well as online and accelerated, nontraditional programs for adults.
