Sara Straub Awarded Outstanding Senior in Communication Arts

 


WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - University of the Cumberlands is proud to announce that Sara Straub, of Florence, is the recipient of the Curtis S. Brown Award.

During the Spring Semester of 2000, the Communication and Theatre Arts faculty unanimously voted to name the award for the Outstanding Senior in Communication Arts the Curtis S. Brown Award. Curtis Brown attended University of the Cumberlands from 1994 to 1998. He was an active member of the Individual Events Team, the Debate Team and Cumberlands Theatre. He was also a talented writer and musician. Curtis graduated from University of the Cumberlands in 1998 and was chosen as the Outstanding Senior in Communication Arts that year. He was working on his master’s degree in communication arts at Wichita State University when he passed away suddenly in the spring of 1999. This award is dedicated to the life and good works of Curtis Brown.

Sara is working toward a double major in communication arts and philosophy. She is an active member of the speech and debate team, Pi Kappa Delta, Alpha Theta Lambda and the philosophy club. Sara was named Top Debater for the fourth year in a row, and the award is now named “Straub Top Debater of the Year” for top debater for the UC forensics team. At this time, Sara is weighing options between corporate work and graduate school.

Sara is the daughter of Bill and Kathy Straub.
