Roberts Receives Emma McPherson English Award at Cumberlands


WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Carl Roberts, of Austin, Ind., is the 2007 recipient of the Emma McPherson English Award. The English department at University of the Cumberlands annually gives this award to a graduating senior who has shown exceptional academic achievement and service to the department. Kathy Fish, professor of English, presented the award to Roberts during the Honors Day service held at University of the Cumberlands on April 23.

Roberts is the son of Donnie and Sandy Roberts and is a 2004 graduate of Austin High School in Austin, Ind. He has completed a major in English and a minor in philosophy in only three years. Additionally, while on campus, Carl has tutored in the Academic Resource Center, and has been a long-distance runner on both the cross country and track teams. Following graduation, he will begin work on his masters in teaching at Cumberlands, and he hopes to secure a position in the fall as a high school English teacher.

University of the Cumberlands, located in Williamsburg, Kentucky, is a private liberal arts college in its 118th year of operation. Cumberlands offers four undergraduate degrees in 37 major fields of study, 30 minors and nine pre-professional programs, graduate degrees and certifications in education as well as online and accelerated, nontraditional programs for adults.
