Guest Soloist Greg Abate to Perform at Free Jazz Concert

Williamsburg, Kentucky - University of the Cumberlands Jazz Ensemble will present a free concert on October 4th at 7:30 p.m. in the recital hall of the Mary McGaw Music Building on the UC campus.

Guest soloist for the concert will be world-class alto saxophonist Greg Abate. Greg Abate is widely considered among jazz writers and aficionados to be one of the "best post bebop alto players" in the profession. In the early 1970s, Greg did a two year stint playing lead alto with the Ray Charles Orchestra. For another two years in the mid 1980s, he held the jazz tenor chair in the revived Artie Shaw Orchestra under the direction of Dick Johnson. He has ten albums as a leader to his credit, all critically acclaimed. His recordings receive playtime on radio all over the country, and last year he received a nomination for a Grammy.

Also appearing on the program will be University of the Cumberlands faculty jazz combo which will join Abate for three tunes.
