Music Department to Hold Annual Scholarship Benefit Concert

Williamsburg, Kentucky-The faculty of University of the Cumberlands Music Department will present the 13th annual Phyllis Richardson Wood Music Scholarship Benefit Concert on Tuesday, September 20, 2005. This music scholarship fund provides financial assistance each year to one or more students who major in music at The University of the Cumberlands. The family of Phyllis Richardson Wood, long-time resident of Williamsburg, established the scholarship in her memory and in honor of her ardent support of the arts.

The music faculty includes Jeff Smoak, Gayle Majors, David Etter, David Threlkeld, Rich Byrd, Jim Corcoran, Laura Chipe, Todd Hill, Kay Dawn McFarland and Jay Kirchner. Each of the faculty will perform on his/her principle instrument. Student Tim Wix, this year's Phyllis Richardson Wood Scholarship recipient, will also perform. The performances will include solos and duets, both vocal and instrumental.

The concert will take place in the Nell Moore Recital Hall of the Grace Crum Rollins Fine Arts Center on the campus of University of the Cumberlands at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20. The Patriot Arts League will host a reception afterwards for all who attend the concert. The concert is open to the public for donations of $10.00 for adults and $4.00 for students. All proceeds will go to the Phyllis Richardson Wood Scholarship Fund.
