Music Announcements

Saturday, March 3, offers University of the Cumberlands senior Joshua Slusher in recital. Slusher, son of John and Shirley Slusher of Flat Lick, is a tuba student of Sean Greene and will be presenting playful pieces such as the suite Effie the Elephant and a composition known as the Willyburg Warble. Other pieces include Handel's Sonata No. 6 and a 1978 sonata for tuba and piano, with Kay Dawn McFarland.

The UC Chorale, conducted by David Etter, performs in concert on Monday, March 5, with inspirational numbers ranging from Haydn's The Heavens Are Telling to Lloyd Larson's spiritual Ain't No Rock Gonna Shout for Me. This Easter celebration in music promises to lift the heart's praise in song.

David Threlkeld directs the UC Jazz Ensemble on Tuesday, March 6, also featuring several students on a variety of instruments. Titles such as That's Not My Dog and No Peppers, No Tomatoes are among the evening's program listings. The ensemble is a standard big band performing swing, bebop, Latin, ballads, rock, and funk.

All events are at 7:30 p.m. in the Nell Moore Recital Hall of the Grace Crum Rollins Fine Arts Center on campus, and admission is free. For more information, contact the UC Music Department at 539-4332.
