Dr. Henard Speaks at University of the Cumberlands

The convocation service held on Monday, August 29, at University of the Cumberlands, sparked the beginning of a new school year for students. The university family was introduced to new faculty and staff and heard the message of the service’s guest speaker, Dr. Bill Henard.

Henard, a 1977 summa cum laude graduate of Cumberland College, now known as University of the Cumberlands, has been a guest speaker and conference leader for many local, state, national, and international programs. He has been involved in missions to Russia, Ukraine, Australia, Jordan, Cuba, Poland, and Iraq. Henard also holds the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and has pastored churches in Alabama and Tennessee. He presently serves as senior pastor of Porter Memorial Baptist Church in Lexington, Ky.

While speaking to UC, Dr. Henard delivered a message that can only be described as inspirational. His speech focused on the ability to make responsible decisions in life and worship. "Do not neglect spiritual growth," Henard said as he directed students to avoid becoming "lazy" in their devotion.

He also commented how students, who are away from home and busy with their class schedules, tend to focus less on their worship. "To make a difference in the world, you have to have a maturity in your faith," Henard said, encouraging students and attendees to make positive decisions regarding their schedules and faith’s involvement in their lives.

Dr. Henard is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and resides in Nicholasville, Ky, with his wife Judy and three children. University of the Cumberlands was honored to have alumnus Dr. Henard return to deliver his message.
