Shannon Whittenberg receives George I. Alden Scholarship


Williamsburg, KY- University of the Cumberlands (UC) presented Shannon Whittenberg (Louisville, Ky.) with the George I. Alden Endowed Scholarship during the 55th Annual Honors Day program in the Gatliff Chapel on UC’s campus.

The George I. Alden Endowed Scholarship Fund, established in 1981 by the George I. Alden Trust, provides one-half tuition scholarships for six students and full tuition scholarships for two students; all of who must be majoring in scientific areas. Whittenberg received one of the one-half scholarships.

Whittenberg, a senior and secondary English education major at UC, was named to the University’s Honor Roll. Students recognized for this honor must attain a minimum of 3.70 cumulative grade point average standing.

In addition, Whittenberg was also named to the J.T. Vallandingham Scholastic Honor Society. In order to be eligible for membership, a student must have completed at least 96 semester hours as a full-time student and have a 3.5 standing or better each semester. The student must have a cumulative standing of 3.7 or better. Students who have transferred to the University have a different set of rules depending on G.P.A. and number of hours taken at UC.
