Maher Earns H.N. and Frances Berger Foundation Scholarship


Williamsburg, KY. - University of the Cumberlands (UC) presented Matthew Maher (Corbin, KY) with the H.N. and Frances Berger Foundation Endowed Scholarship during the Fifty-Fifth Annual Honors Day Sunday, April 27, 2014 in the Gatliff Chapel on UC’s campus.

In 1983, the H. N. & Frances Berger Foundation Endowed Scholarship Fund was established at Cumberlands to recognize exceptionally bright young people who have demonstrated high academic ability.

In addition, Maher was named to the J.T. Vallandingham Scholastic Honor Society. In order to be eligible for membership, a student must have completed at least 96 semester hours as a full-time student and have a 3.5 standing or better each semester. The student must have a cumulative standing of 3.7 or better. Students who have transferred to the University have a different set of rules depending on G.P.A. and number of hours taken at UC.

Maher was also named to the University’s High Honor Roll. Students recognized for this honor must attain a minimum of 3.85 cumulative grade point average standing.

And last, but certainly not least, Maher was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Who’s Who is open to juniors and seniors who have been selected by the faculty and staff. These students have excelled in one or more of the following areas: participation and leadership in academic and extracurricular activities; citizenship and service to the school and community; and potential for future achievement.

Maher is a senior majoring in accounting and mathematics. He plans to pursue a career as a CPA working in public or internal accounting.
