Mitchell Mascaro Earns P.R. Jones Chemistry Award at UC

 


Williamsburg, KY- University of the Cumberlands (UC) presented Mitchell Mascaro (Knoxville, TN) with the P.R. Jones Chemistry Award during the Fifty-Fifth Annual Honors Day, Sunday, April 27th in the Gatliff Chapel on UC’s campus.

The P.R. Jones Chemistry Outstanding Senior award is presented to a graduating senior in recognition of his or her excellent academic achievements, contribution and service to the department, and future professional potential, which is found in Mascaro.

Mitchell is a Chemistry major, Biology minor with an almost perfect GPA. He has been a tremendous asset to UC’s science program as a student. He has served as a teacher’s assistant (TA) and an active member of the Alchemist club, volunteered in a host of departmental and extra-curricular activities, plus worked as a dorm resident assistant.

He was inducted to the Gamma Sigma Epsilon Chemistry National Honor Society, the tri-Beta Biology Honor Society, been named to the President’s list three times, the Dean’s list seven times, Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities and the J.T Vallandingham Honor Society, the university’s highest honor.

In addition to his stellar accomplishments in his academics, wearing jersey #89, he is the infamous punter of our historic 2013 NAIA National Finalist Football team. He has won numerous awards and broken numerous records as a punter, including holding our school’s record for the longest punt (77 yards). More impressively, he is the winner of the 2013 NAIA Champion of Character award; which honored Mascaro as a scholar athlete that demonstrates the following five core values: Respect, Integrity, Responsibility, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership.

In addition, Mascaro was also named to the J.T. Vallandingham Scholastic Honor Society. In order to be eligible for membership, a student must have completed at least 96 semester hours as a full-time student and have a 3.5 standing or better each semester. The student must have a cumulative standing of 3.7 or better. Students who have transferred to the University have a different set of rules depending on G.P.A. and number of hours taken at UC.

Mascaro was also named to the University’s High Honor Roll. Students recognized for this honor must attain a minimum of 3.85 cumulative grade point average standing.

After graduation, Mascaro will further his education beginning this June at Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry to specialize in Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery.

Mitchell is the son of Mike and Melanie Mascaro from Knoxville, TN and the fiancé’ of Ms. Courtney Harrel.
