Smith Earns Phyllis Richardson Wood Award at UC


Williamsburg, KY. – The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Music Department presented William Jayson Smith (Dry Ridge, Ky.) with the Phyllis Richardson Wood Music Scholarship Award during the Fifty-Fifth Annual Honors Day Sunday, April 27, 2014, in the Gatliff Chapel on UC’s campus.

The Phyllis Richardson Wood Music Scholarship is presented to a music major – sophomore or above – who has excelled in the areas of academics and performance. This scholarship award is given in honor of the late Phyllis Richardson Wood who was an active supporter of the University of the Cumberlands Music Department.

Smith, the son of William “Bill” and Marcia Smith, is a junior instrumental music education major. In addition to receiving this year’s scholarship, Smith will perform with the Music Faculty in the Phyllis Richardson Wood Scholarship Concert that will be presented in the fall of 2014.
