UC presents Mr. Michael Mountjoy with Leadership Award


Williamsburg, KY.,- On April 1, University of the Cumberlands (UC) and the Forcht Group of Kentucky Center for Excellence in Leadership presented “Logical Leadership” with keynote speaker, Dr. Ben Carson, Sr. M.D.. Several thousand people attended the event to hear the emeritus professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery and pediatrics give his inspiring testimony.

The Center, that sponsors internationally renowned speakers recognized for their character and leadership, provides a keynote speaker yearly at UC to help raise the visibility of the University’s values.

At this year’s program UC honored seven individuals who have been instrumental in demonstrating an excellence to their community and nation and for serving as a role model to others by taking active steps to pursue noble goals and high ethical standards.

Mr. Michael B. Mountjoy was one of the honored guests to receive the Leadership Award.

Michael B. Mountjoy is the Chairman and co-founder of Mountjoy Chilton Medley LLP, Kentucky’s largest public accounting firm headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky with other offices in Lexington and Frankfort, Kentucky, Jeffersonville, Indiana and Cincinnati Ohio.

Mr. Mountjoy is a licensed CPA, ABV, CGMA, and PFS. He is also a licensed Series 66 and Series 7 investment advisor. Mr. Mountjoy is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and has been elected to the UK Gatton Business School Hall of Fame. He served the American Institute of CPA’s as a member of the Board of Directors. He received on behalf of his firm the AICPA Public Service Award. He also served as Board Member and President of the Kentucky Society of CPA’s and was awarded the Kentucky Society’s Distinguished Service Award. Additionally, in 2005, he was listed in CPA Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential Practitioners in the US.

Mr. Mountjoy has also served on various corporate and civic boards. Currently, he serves on the UK Gatton School of Business Accounting Advisory Board, is the Chairman of the Gheens Foundation, and member of the Louisville Library Foundation Board. Mr. Mountjoy was a member of the Governor’s Commission on Tax Reform and the Kentucky Bar Association’s Task Force on Lawyer Discipline. In 2003, he was listed by Louisville Magazine as one of the city’s 50 Most Powerful People. He is a co-founder and the Chairman of McIndy Ventures, LLC, a multi-unit restaurant operator, and cofounder and Chairman of the Bluegrass International Fund, LLC, an EB-5 Regional Center. He is a director of Renaissance Health Services Corporation, Delta Dental of Kentucky, Delta Dental of North Carolina, IVS LLC, the AL J. Schneider Co, Mountain River Farms LLC, US Worldmeds LLC, and a member of the US Bank Advisory Board. He is the co-author of Who Pardoned Accountability.

Mr. Mountjoy and his wife, Carolyn, live in Louisville. He is a licensed pilot and enjoys golf, fishing, hunting and travel.
