UC Tops in Shaping the Next Generation in Kentucky

Williamsburg, Ky. – University of the Cumberlands (UC) has been named the number one college in Kentucky with the highest number of graduates in 2012 in the fields of education and teaching by the Online College Database.

In 2012, UC had the highest number of students to graduate with a degree in education in Kentucky. With 1,971 enrolled in 2012, 728 of those students were dedicated to earning a degree in education to continue educating and inspiring the next generation.

“Online degrees are able to help shape the next generation because the next generation wants convenience, affordability, and courses that will fit their time schedules and be adjustable,” explained UC’s Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Larry Cockrum. “Students want to know when they begin classes, how long they will have until they are finished. This way, it helps them pace themselves in a manner that makes it easier for them to see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

The rankings were calculated from government and commercial sources such as the Integrated Post-secondary Education Data System, the National Center for Education Statistics, and the Carnegie Classification system. These companies base their research on academic, demographic, trends at the student and institutional levels, and institutional characteristics.

Through firsthand teaching experience for degree-seeking students, through internships, and through research centers that directly shape the future educational techniques, these programs are very attractive in the education community. These rankings determine the strongest education degree programs in Kentucky along with other various and important factors such as reputation, facilities, and learning opportunities. UC is proud to be at the top of this ranking among some of the finest colleges and universities in the state of Kentucky.

The list of 26 colleges with the best education degrees in Kentucky who met the criteria set for the colleges was provided by the Online College Database, a free, non-commercial website dedicated to providing current and future post-secondary students and their families with accurate and valuable college and career related information.

UC has also recently been recognized by the Online College Database for providing high quality education at an affordable price with high financial return or investment. It’s one of Kentucky’s top colleges out of eleven colleges listed as most affordable.

“It is an honor for University of the Cumberlands to be honored and recognized by an outside agency,” said Cockrum. “I am very proud of UC and its dedicated faculty, staff, and administration for making it all work.”
