Prospective students visit UC for Preview Day

Williamsburg, Ky. – About 90 high school students came to visit University of the Cumberlands (UC) for Patriot Preview Day on February 22, 2014.

“It’s important to visit and to get a good campus experience to check out the school, talk to department representatives, athletic coaches, financial aid, and others,” said Russell Carr, Associate Director of Admissions.

According to Carr, mostly juniors visit in the spring to get a head start and the seniors usually visit in the fall and then finalize everything in the spring. Preview Day gives high school students the chance to hear from current UC students about campus life, ask any questions that they have, and tour campus.

The parents attended an informational session about financial aid, academics, and student life while the high school students went to a session about campus activities. Afterwards, both the parents and students talked with department supervisors to explore which field they were most interested in.

“It’s good for them to be exposed to the campus itself because if the student can visit that usually seals the deal,” said Carr.

Located in Williamsburg, Ky., University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees more than 40 major fields of study; ten pre-professional programs; ten graduate degrees distributed over eight areas, including two doctorates and seven master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
