UC Held ROTC Commissioning Ceremony for Cadets


Williamsburg, KY.,- On Thursday, December 19th, University of the Cumberlands (UC) held its ROTC Commissioning ceremony for deserving cadets at the Cumberland Inn in Williamsburg, Kentucky. UC students and cadets of UC’s ROTC program, Kyrk Alexander Davis (Florence, KY) and Tyler Eugene Thacker (Ranger, GA) were commissioned to 2nd Lieutenant Officers for the Kentucky National Guards.

Major Eddie Simpson, professor of Military Science at University of the Cumberlands, administered the Oath of Office and presented the commissioning certificates to Davis and Thacker. Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Huenell assisted Simpson in recognizing the honored gentlemen.

Thacker is a senior at UC and is currently in the process of attaining a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Science.

Davis is also a senior and is seeking a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Accounting from University of the Cumberlands.

“I am extremely proud to have commissioned Tyler and Kyrk,” said Major Simpson. “They were the original cadets who started when I started here at UC. Their hard work and dedication are an inspiration to all the other cadets. Seeing them grow has been an amazing experience for me.”
