UC named a Military Friendly School for 2014

Williamsburg, Ky.— The University of the Cumberlands (UC) has officially been dubbed a 2014 Military Friendly School ®. The 2014 Military Friendly Schools ® list honors the top 20 percent of college, universities, and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to welcome America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

The Military Friendly Schools ® media and website, found at, features the entire list, interactive tools, and search functionality to help military students find the best school to suit their unique needs and preferences. This resource has been in operation for five years. The colleges, universities, and trade schools featured on this year’s list demonstrate leading practices in the recruitment and retention of students with military experience. These schools have world-class programs and policies for student support on campus, academic accreditation, credit policies, flexibility, and other services to those who have served their nation.

Dr. Michael B. Colegrove, Vice-President of Student Service at University of the Cumberlands and retired Colonel, said, “University of the Cumberlands is honored to be chosen as a Military Friendly School. UC has a long history of service to veterans and their dependents and continues to provide the best possible service to all who serve our country and protect our freedoms.”

Now in its fifth year, the 2014 list of Military Friendly Schools ® was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 12,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. Each year schools taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from schools across the country. A full list of board members can be found at
