Samuel Huntley named Presidential Scholar


Williamsburg, Ky. – On Saturday, May 4th University of the Cumberlands (UC) senior Samuel Huntley (Littleton, CO) was honored as a Presidential Scholar for his significant research during the University’s annual commencement ceremony.

Honors research is conducted over a two-semester period within the last two years of college. Academically exceptional students are offered an opportunity for intensive work in their fields through advanced independent study or creative activity.

Huntley’s research paper was entitled: Development of a DNA Based Molecular Technique to Detect Mud Salamanders and Red Salamanders in Local Streams.

Huntley, the son of Sandy and Russ Huntley, majored in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Mathematics.

After graduation, Sam plans to shadow doctors in Belgium and travel for the summer. He will then apply to medical school while working in Knoxville as a pharmacy technician and personal trainer.
