Cumberlands Holds Third Annual Golden March

Williamsburg, Ky. – University of the Cumberlands (UC) celebrated its 50 year graduates during its May 4, 2013 commencement ceremony. Graduates from the class of 1963 were honored at UC’s annual 50th Class Reunion breakfast before the ceremony. During the graduation processional, the ’63 graduates walked to their seats in the Golden March Tradition.

There were 19 graduates from the ’63 class that attended the Golden Reunion, along with friends and family. Each graduate was given a 50th reunion medallion, cap and gown, and they carried a Golden Reunion banner as they walked in to take their seats during the commencement’s processional.

The graduates that attended the class reunion were: Herman Blair (Kettering, OH), Richard Brashear (Williamsburg, KY), Robert Byrd (Nicholasville, KY), Ronald Campbell (Maryville, TN), Robert Cathcart (Bonnyman, KY), Rodney Croley (Blanchester, OH), John Faulkner (La Follette, TN), James Fields (Hazard, KY), Sarah Fredericks (Williamsburg, KY), Gladys Grever (Ft. Thomas, KY), John Hollingsworth (Howard, OH), Sandra Jackson (Borden, IN), Peggy Meeks (Elizabethtown, KY), Thomas Potter (Haymarket, VA), David Sawyer (Afton, OK), Charles Sheriff (Mount Juliet, TN), Doris Triplett (Corbin, KY), Arthur Wilson (Independence, KY), and Lavonne Wilson (Independence, KY).

The idea to begin a Golden March Tradition at each commencement was put into motion by the Director of Alumni Services, Dave Bergman. The decision to begin the annual event in 2011 seemed appropriate, since 1961 was the year that Cumberland College graduated its first four-year class.
