Mary Lee receives the Excellence in Elementary School Education Award


Williamsburg, Ky. - University of the Cumberlands (UC) presented Mary Elizabeth Lee (Harlan, KY) with the Excellence in Elementary School Education Award during the 54th annual Honors Day Program on Sunday, April 21st.

She was also named to the University’s High Honor Roll. Students recognized for this honor must attain a minimum of 3.85 cumulative grade point average standing.

Mary, the daughter of Roland and Penny Lee, will be graduated in May with certification in Elementary Education grades K -5. She is a graduate of Harlan County High School where she was the 2009 Valedictorian of the Senior Class.

While at UC she has been active in the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education serving as president of the organization in 2010; she has been a consistent member of the President’s and Dean’s lists. She received the A.T. Siler Memorial Service Award in 2012 and became a member of the J.T. Vallandingham Honor Society in 2013.

Mary has been the BCM Disciples Drama Team Director for the past 3 ½ years and has been active in the drama ministry for the past 11 years.

After graduation, Mary will return to Harlan to begin the application process for a position as a classroom teacher. She will also continue to work in her local church with youth and young adults.
