Kathleen Edwards receives Angel Unaware Award

Williamsburg, Ky. - University of the Cumberlands (UC) presented Kathleen Edwards (Calhoun, GA) with the Angel Unaware Award during the 54th annual Honors Day Program on Sunday, April 21st.

Each year Mr. and Mrs. Luther Smith bestow the Angel Unaware Award to an undergraduate student. The award honors a student who selflessly helps others through acts and deeds of kindness, who give of herself far beyond what is expected, who is always there to lend a helping hand, and who does so without expecting recognition.

Edwards was also named to the University’s High Honor Roll. Students recognized for this honor must attain a minimum of 3.85 cumulative grade point average standing.

The list of her volunteer activities is over 400 hours of community service including tutoring students, activity in the honors societies, teaching Sunday School, and leading Bible studies. Kathleen has served as President and as Treasurer of Kappa Delta Pi education honorary society. Her proficiency in several languages has enabled her to create a welcoming atmosphere for many of the international students adjusting to academic and social life in the United States.

Some of the strongest comments that her multiple nominators made were about her willingness to go out of her way to help her peers in their time of need and spend hours helping those in trouble.

One faculty summed up her qualifications and stated simply that “She is the example of Christ in her everyday life…”

Kathleen is the daughter of Stephen and Candace Edwards.
