West presents senior art exhibit at Cumberlands

Williamsburg, Ky. — University of the Cumberlands (UC) senior William West presented his senior art exhibit at UC’s J.M. Boswell Art Gallery during the week of April 22-27. A reception for the senior was hosted by the UC art department on Friday, April 26.

West is inspired by Classical and Contemporary art, and sites Rembrandt’s “mature self-portraits” as a particular influence in his own work.

“My work attempts to create feelings of nostalgia and reflection, paying tribute to the memories or learning another language, the habits of my parents, the stresses of being a student and, of course, the sketches of my notebook’s margins,” said West.

The art education major plans to look for work in the school system immediately following graduation, and will pursue a master’s and doctoral degree while working. West, a native of Williamsburg, is the son of Jerry and Denise West.

Located in Williamsburg, Ky., University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; twelve graduate degrees, including two doctorate, two specialist and eight master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
