Williamsburg, Ky. — University of the Cumberlands (UC) senior Shelby Stanaford presented her senior art exhibit at UC’s J.M. Boswell Art Gallery during the week of April 15-20. A reception for the senior was hosted by the UC art department on Friday, April 19.

Stanaford is a seasoned artist, having been drawing and painting realistic portraits of animals for years. As well as being a full-time student, she works on commission through her studio, ElbyShay, where she does equine and pet portraiture.

“I love to create a drawing or painting that represents an animal, horses being my specialty, or portrait not just from request but to capture that essence, that moment of living, breathing life into an object of art,” said Stanaford of her work.

Stanaford plans to continue her commission work, as well as pursue a degree in medical billing at the University of Tennessee. In May, the London, Ky. native will graduate with a degree in art and a minor in psychology. She is the daughter of Brien and Kim Stanaford.

Located in Williamsburg, Ky., University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; twelve graduate degrees, including two doctorate, two specialist and eight master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
