Kim Knopf speaks at 2013 Business Forum

 


Williamsburg, Ky. – On Wednesday, April 17, University of the Cumberlands (UC) Hutton School of Business hosted the 6th annual Business Forum for Young Professionals.

The business forum is designed to prepare young professionals as they enter the business workforce. Industry professionals share their professional experiences and discuss ways in which businesses can thrive, not just survive, in any financial climate. The theme for 2013 was “How to Achieve Business Growth in a Recovering Economy.”

One of the speakers was Kim Knopf who is the founder, President, and CEO of Innovative Mattress Solutions (iMS). She began her business in 1983 with one store located in Charleston, West Virginia. Now, iMS has 150 stores located over six states operating as Mattress Warehouse, Mattress King, and Sleep Outfitters.

For her ongoing success at iMS, Knopf recently received the annual Leadership Award presented by WithIt, a leadership and networking organization for professional women in the furniture industry.

Knopf has been elected to the WV Business Hall of Fame, named as WV State Journal’s Who’s Who in Business, and honored as a WVYWCA Woman of Achievement. In 2010, iMS was recognized by Furniture Today as one of only four bedding stores to be named as a Retail Giant of Bedding.

She is a member of the West Virginia Economic Development Authority Board of Directors and holds a B.A. from the University of Kentucky.

The forum was founded by Mr. J. Hunt Perkins. Perkins, a geologist, is president of J. Hunt Perkins and Associates, Inc.; a Lexington firm established in 1983 that specializes in oil and gas exploration services, gas well drilling and field exploration services. A current member of Cumberlands Board of Trustees, his strong association with the university extends back to when his mother served more than ten years as the bursar for then Cumberland College.

Located in Williamsburg, Ky., University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction, which currently offers four undergraduate degrees in more than 40 major fields of study; nine pre-professional programs; twelve graduate degrees, including two doctorate, two specialist and eight master’s degrees; certifications in education; and online programs.
